Jesus Prayed…

• At His Baptism“Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased” (Luke 3:21-22)
• Before Choosing His Apostles “In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. And when day came, He called His disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles” (Luke 6:12,13).
• At His Transfiguration “Now about eight days after these sayings he took with Him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. And as He was praying, the appearance of His face was altered, and His clothing became dazzling white” (Luke 9:28-29).
• In the Garden of Gethsemane “And being in agony He prayed more earnestly; and His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground. And when He rose from prayer, He came to His disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow” (Luke 22:44-45).
• On the Cross “And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on His right and one on His left. And Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’ And they cast lots to divide His garments” (Luke 23:33). “Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!’ And having said this He breathed His last”  (Luke 23:46).

The book of Luke informs us that Jesus prayed at important times in His life. Despite all that was going on around Him Jesus withdrew from the world and went to God in prayer. “But now even more the report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear Him and to be healed of their infirmities. But He would withdraw to desolate places to pray”  (Luke 5:15,16).

Take the time to withdraw yourself from the cares of the world and go to God in prayer. Leave the cell phone, laptop, and any other distraction in the other room. Find a place where you can be alone and pour your heart out to God.
